The History of the Park and City Partnership

In 2012 The City of Pinellas Park dedicated a 10-acre site that was originally donated to the City by Dr Lurie to be used as the home to The Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch. The City allocated a $1.1M budget to start the building and in January 2018, headed by County Commissioner Charlie Justice, The City Park secured funds from a BP Award of $250000. During that summer construction ramped up and the park formally opened to the Public on September 1st, 2018.

WWAR has worked hand in hand with the city to obtain Grants and donations for facilities at the park including a Pavilion donated by the Armed Forces families Foundation and one donated by The Rotary Club. WWAR has funded through donations the multipurpose court and the Dog Park and working together with the City we have obtained grants to build the adaptive outdoor multipurpose Gym and Military Children’s Playground.

Once built, WWAR will be responsible for the Building and Operational costs of the Head Quarters and the building of the Memorial Garden.

Memorial Gardens and Pavers

WWAR Memorial Garden

WWAR at Lurie Park will have a Memorial Garden to honor all Veterans who have served and to recognize all KIA who came from the Pinellas Park area on a memorial dedicated to them and the conflict they served. In partnership with The D.U.S.T.O.F.F Foundation we will be creating a Memorial Plaza and laying Pavers in Honor of Veterans.

Plants and benches will surround the Gardens, so the area becomes a place to reflect and remember the sacrifices made.

WITH THANKS TO

Memorial Paver

Have a memorial paver laid in the WWAR Park in honor of a Veteran or a loved one.
